Sacramento Area Women’s Chamber of Commerce Holds Inaugural Event
In Celebration of Women’s History Month
Sacramento—The Sacramento Area Women’s Chamber of Commerce (SAWCC) will hold its inaugural event and membership drive in celebration of Women’s History Month, Thursday March 27, 2014 in the State Capitol basement in the Eureka Room from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The free event will feature entertainment, food and networking with business leaders and state and local officials.
The SAWCC is a nonpartisan, 501c(6) organization that promotes the economic empowerment of women in business, leadership development, relationship networking and advocacy in private and public sectors. Affiliated with the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce, SAWCC was founded to connect, develop, and promote women of every age and diversity in our region toward greater positions of influence, with special emphasis in helping more women secure leading roles in the Next Economy and STEM sectors (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). By bolstering women in business, government and corporate sectors, Statistics show the SAWCC mission lifts the entire region and plays an important role in the economy. Since the depth of the recession, the net increase of 5.3 million jobs in the U.S. from 2007 – 2013 have come almost entirely from women-owned firms or from very large public corporations, according to the latest American Express OPEN’s State of Women-Owned Businesses Report.
The nearly 100 Charter members and Board of Directors of SAWCC will receive certificates from Senate Pro-Tem Darrell Steinberg. Representative Doris Matsui’s Office also will recognize the organization. The SAWCC will present its foundational platform and seek input about how best to serve women in our region, play a role in developing more of women of influence and collaborate with existing organizations. In addition, SAWCC is taking a survey on the State of Women of Influence in our region and will release the results later.
Legislative Resolution passed in October 2013 in support of SAWCC!
